The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Blewbury Players @ Orchard Dene Garden Theatre

Performances will be 17-20 July, 2024

A gem of a play, full of action, humour, music and emotion. One of Bertolt Brecht’s most celebrated plays - a wonderful story performed by a gang of actors - in a new translation. This modern translation provides an alternative and more accessible version than the more traditional text.

This will be directed by Erica Harley. We are deighted that Erica is returning to direct in Blewbury. She has previously directed The Taming of the Shrew and The Visit for the Blewbury Players.

A play within a play, some farmers are arguing over land and who should be in control of what happens to it. They are interrupted by a group of singers and actors who come to perform a play. The story is about a young maid, Grusha who is caught up in a rebellion and finds herself caring for the son of the Governor’s wife, who has fled with her best dresses, but forgotten her son. Grusha has to flee to protect the child and goes through a number of trials, ending up being judged by a seemingly unscrupulous judge when the real mother returns to claim her child in echoes of The Judgement of Solomon.… who will win?

General Box Office opens 7 June.  Tickets will be sold @ blewburyplayers.co.uk.
