Banbury Cross Players are offering an opportunity to join the fantastic cast of their June 2026 Production of Sarah Gordon’s play Underdog: The Other Other Brontë as part of the active and varied Ensemble.

The Ensemble
A key part of the Production taking on the many characters who were part of Brontë life – drunken brother Branwell, publishers Newby and Smith, outrageous Literary Critics, Victorian Biographer Elizabeth Gaskell, novelist WM Thackeray and the incorrigible child Cunliffe.

The National Theatre archive of their 2024 Production gives a feel for the wide range of characters to be performed: https://youtu.be/qrmHSyPSeHk?si=BFVOBdAPmWKy-7ih

The Play
An irreverent retelling of the life and legend of the Brontë sisters, and the sibling power dynamics that shaped their uneven rise to fame. A familiar story told with a modern voice which makes these three exceptional women very accessible for an audience of today.
